“HOW DO I EFFECTIVELY TRAIN MY TEAM TO IMPROVE THEIR OWN WORK?”

“HOW DO I EFFECTIVELY TRAIN MY TEAM TO IMPROVE THEIR OWN WORK?”

I was part of an organization that wanted to expand it’s Continuous Improvement capabilities and selected twenty highly qualified internal candidates to receive online Lean Six Sigma training from a very reputable university. These were the best employees receiving training from one of the top-rated training programs in the country and was costing thousands of dollars…what could go wrong?

To start with, the training concepts weren’t easy to understand without real-time application, and nearly 50% of the employees failed to pass the final exam required for their certification. One year after launch, only a handful of improvement projects had been completed. Within two years, the program was completely dissolved.

Your goal is to fix production issues and create a culture of continuous improvement, not waste money on quick fixes that don’t last and training that gets forgotten before it ever gets applied.

The traditional models of “send your people to off-site training” or “hire a consultant to fix the problem” are broken, and leaders like you know that there is a better way to do this.

That’s why we created Tr-Action®, a program that combines onsite training with coach-facilitated action and produces improvements that take hold and stick.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

"I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how much I appreciate the value Josh has brought to this process. When I first took on my new role, I knew it was going to be a lot of work getting the boat turned in the right direction. I had the vision to see where I wanted us to get to but lacked the experience to formulate a tactical plan to get us there. Implementing 5S helped me see how we would achieve the physical organization but this past week with our focus on strategy I feel a weight lifted or pressure release for the first time in nearly 6 months. Josh is always a pleasure to work with and does a fantastic job training for the purpose of handing off the responsibility to myself and my team to own."

5 CHALLENGES COMPANIES FACE IN TRAINING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT THAT WE ADDRESS WITH TR-ACTION

1. We just don’t have the time to stop production and train.

2. We sent people to get training before and they had trouble implementing what was learned.

3. Implemented Continuous Improvement efforts never stick around, we always slide backwards.

4. Our business is unique and have struggled to find a trainer that “gets” us.

5. We know it is important, but we have trouble justifying the cost of training.

HOW TR-ACTION ADDRESSES THESE CHALLENGES:

1. We just don’t have the time to stop production and train.

To be honest, no one has the time to stop production. We get that, but we also understand that without training, your company can never get any better than it already is right now. We work with leadership to address two things: How to select an area/opportunity of focus and how to then build a team that will minimize disruption to production.

2. We sent people to get training before and they had trouble implementing what was learned.

This is a frustrating conundrum for both Leaders and employees. Leaders want to see results for their investments, and employees want to have the opportunity to implement what they have learned. Unfortunately, both groups are oftentimes left disappointed. Tr-Action addresses both of these opportunities by combining focused classroom training with immediate, hands-on, application in their own environment. This not only ensures results for the Leaders, but it also reinforces the learned principles and tools.

3. Implemented Continuous Improvement efforts never stick around, we always slide backwards.

Sustaining efforts is always the hardest step! We help you overcome this in a variety of ways. First, we make sure that all parties involved have been trained concerning the necessary steps to ensure sustainment. This training includes both Leadership and front-line employees. We also leave the group with the tools needed for sustainment. This could include any or all of the following: KPI tracking boards, routine audits, Standard Work documents and robust training/development plans.

4. Our business is unique and have struggled to find a trainer that “gets” us.

Trust us, we “get” you! We agree that you are unique, but we have also established tried and true principles that can help ANY business run to its potential. We start off all Tr-Action engagements with a Master Planning Session with Leadership to help us identify the strengths and challenges of the company. We utilize what we learn to create a focused plan moving forward. This ensures that while we are training your team, we are also focusing on your biggest challenges.

5. We know it is important, but we have trouble justifying the cost of training.

The Effective Syndicate’s clients have historically enjoyed 5:1 ROI with our engagements. For example, if a company spent $10,000 on an improvement event, they can expect $50,000 in improvements. Want to hear a little bit more, watch this case study to see how we identified over half a million dollars worth of cost reductions and improvements.
